The St. John Bosco Adult Choir is a dedicated group of parishioners who love to sing and provide more meaningful worship to the weekly Mass through song.  As St. Augustine  said   "Those who sing pray twice!"  All parishioners (ages 14-up) are welcome to join the Adult Choir.  You do NOT need to know how to read music in order to sing in our choir, but it is helpful.  We do perform many pieces in 4 part harmony (SATB) to add to the richness and beauty of the mass.

The adult choir meets for rehearsals once week on Monday evenings from 7:00-8:30pm and sings at two masses per month (the first Sunday at 11:30am and the third Saturday at 4:00pm) as well as all special occasions (First Holy Communion and Confirmation) and holiday masses (Holy Week, Easter Sunday and Christmas.)

The St. John Bosco Handbell Choir is a dedicated group of parishioners who volunteer their time and talent to enhance the experience of worship with handbell music.  The handbell choir meets once a week (Wednesday evening from 6:00-7:00pm) to rehearse and performs  at mass once a month. You do not need to know how to read music in order to join the Handbell choir, though it would be helpful.  The desire to play music and praise the Lord through song is the only requirement!

SJB Children's Choir - Miss Jennifer Gerhard, director

The SJB Children's Choir is open to students who have the desire to sing in their church community.  The Children's Choir offers students who love to sing  the opportunity to provide the congregation with meaningful song during the year.  Students will learn how to sing together and work as a group  learning music in unison or 2 part harmony.

The Children's Choir meets once a week (Tuesday evenings from 4:30-5:30pm) beginning the middle of  October through the week before Christmas and provides music for the 4:00pm mass on Christmas Eve.  The Children's Choir also provides the music for the 11:30am masses on Epiphany Sunday and Mother's Day.  Students do NOT need to know how to read music to be a part of the Children's Choir.

Students who play piano (and are taking piano or organ lessons) or other student instrumentalists are also  encouraged to participate in the Children's Choir.  Any student interested in becoming an instrumentalist with the Children's Choir should contact Miss Gerhard.

SJB Adult and  Junior  Cantor program

The responsibility of am adult cantor/leader of song is extremely important to the quality of the   mass experience.  Cantors are responsible for leading all hymns and mass parts, as well as the Responsorial Psalm and Alleluia at each mass.  These individuals  must have excellent  leadership qualities and a strong voice with the ability to lead the congregation in prayer through song.

The Junior Cantor program is open to students grades 7-college age.  Prior (or present) vocal training is required to join the junior cantor program.

Anyone interested in becoming an adult or junior cantor should contact Jennifer Gerhard, music director, or Father Polmounter to set up a time to meet.

The SJB String Ensemble and Instrumentalists are a group of professional musicians who enhance the experience of the mass with instrumental music.  The String players and instrumentalists perform at all special masses (First Holy Communion and Confirmation) as well as all holiday masses and other select masses throughout the year.  Instrumentalists attend adult choir rehearsals in the weeks prior to their masses in order to rehearse as a full ensemble.

Any string player (with prior experience and the ability to read music well) should contact  Mrs. Lizbinski or Mrs. Cross to set up a time to meet.  Any other instrumentalist (with prior experience and the ability to read music well) should contact Miss Gerhard to set up a time to meet.
